The Afrikanerbond
CREDO

We, The Afrikanerbond,
an organisation of and for the Afrikaans community,

Mindful of the fact
That we, the Afrikaners, are the only people on the continent of Africa that – more than two hundred years ago – named ourselves spontaneously and of our own accord after the continent on which we and our forebears were born; and

That our language, Afrikaans, originated and developed here on African soil and was likewise named after the continent of Africa;

We Hereby declare
That we, despite the fact that our origins many generations ago were mainly in Europe, but also in the East and elsewhere, today are – and want to be – children of Africa and, more specifically, children of South Africa;

That our loyalty is focused on South Africa as our country and Africa as our continent because South Africa is our past, our present and our future.

Whereas we are firmly convinced and do believe
That our own interests as well as those of our fellow Afrikaners are altogether inseparable from the interests of all other South Africans and every other people in South Africa, and

That therefore the interests of all other South Africans are also our interests too;

Therefore we unreservedly commit ourselves
To devote our energies and capabilities to our fatherland without reserve in order to enhance the quality of life and human dignity of all people in South Africa.

Whereas we are further convinced and do believe
That this, our beloved country, will only be able to overcome the serious problems that it faces and fully actualise its great potential if the energy, expertise and enthusiasm of all its people can be utilised in dynamic harmony,

Therefore we shall
Mobilise and harness the expertise, diligence and capabilities of our people towards the pursuit of these aims.

In this process we shall
Cooperate, where and necessary applicable, with the Authorities and State Institutions on all levels and with all patriotic organisations in the Civil Society to achieve common aims.

Whereas we are also convinced and do believe
That our people can only perform to the best of their ability if they feel physically, emotionally, culturally and economically secure in the land of their birth and are not hampered by unjust limitations of whatever nature,

Therefore we shall

• Defend the fundamental rights of each individual and every section of the population in this land with alacrity;
• Work towards the elimination of discrimination wherever it may occur in our society;
• Particularly protect the interests of the people by whose ideals we have been and are inspired;
• Strive for the maintenance and development of all indigenous languages, with particular emphasis on Afrikaans;
• Protect and promote the essence of a truly democratic political system and combat with tenacity any undemocratic aspects and tendencies that may arise; and
• Do everything within our ability to promote justness, fairness and the highest ethical and moral values in South Africa.

We, the Afrikanerbond, herewith commit ourselves
anew to these high ideals springing from our deeply felt sentiments and declare once again that we dedicate ourselves and our Organisation to the realisation thereof.

And, deeply conscious
of the boundless mercy bestowed through the ages and over the decades upon us as South Africans by the Almighty Father, Master of the fate of nations and people,

We embrace the future
in this, our beautiful and precious land, with faith, determination, fortitude and optimism.
